The intensification of the surveillance and control services also for the protection of public order and safety arranged in Gallarate by the Varese Police Commissioner Carlo Ambrogio Enrico Mazza has made it possible to develop an investigative activity carried out by the local Public Safety Commissioner, which produced the report, for various reasons, of ten people, one of whom is a minor, for the crimes of brawling, carrying objects capable of offending and aggravated threats. Seven of them are currently under investigation, while the identification process is underway for the remaining three.

Against the suspects, the commissioner, following the investigative activity of the Anti-Crime Police Division, issued the so-called “Daspo Willie”which will prohibit access for two years to public premises and businesses located in the city center of Gallarate and in the area adjacent to the railway station.

Specifically, the Gallarate Police Department reconstructed the violent episodes that occurred near the city train station on 3 June, noting that everything had arisen from a previous brawl, which occurred in the same area and which had seen two opposing factions clash.

From the reconstruction of the facts, in particular, it was ascertained that the two groups, which faced each other on 3 June, were made up of one of sub-Saharan origins and the other of young North Africans, Albanians and Romanians.

The analysis of the video surveillance systems, acquired by the police investigators, made it possible to understand how the North African, Albanian and Romanian faction, after having consumed several bottles of beer and spirits in front of a bar in the area and having thrown several to the ground , had headed towards the entrance of the railway station in the direction of some members of the other faction, with whom a first contact began, temporarily interrupted by some passers-by who intervened. Contact which then continued near the rear entrance of the airport, where the protagonists, armed with bottles taken from waste bins, attempted to fight several times, which in fact occurred shortly afterwards.

In particular, in an adjacent area, a member of the faction “North African, Albanian, Romanian” he was attacked by four members of that group “sub-Saharan”, one of whom, riding a bicycle, launched himself at full speed towards the antagonist, hitting him in the pelvis with the front wheel while another threatened him, without however hitting him, with a hammer.

The scene of the events subsequently moved to Piazza XXV Aprile and Via Borghi, where the members of the two factions chased each other again brandishing glass bottles and a hammer without however managing to clash again thanks to the intervention of the police patrols, Carabinieri and the Local Police who managed to prevent the two factions from starting a physical clash again.

«During the investigations, in addition to the seriousness of the behaviors carried out by each participant in the brawl, some of whom were already investigated for similar episodes, what emerged – the Varese Police Headquarters said in a note – was a worrying inclination to reiterate, blatantly and dangerously, concrete and violent actions with a negative impact on public order, with evident negative repercussions also on the perception of safety by the citizens, who were particularly alarmed by the episode, which occurred among other things in the early evening, when the majority of commuters were returning home” .

This is also why the State Police did not wait to respond promptly, even in preventive terms. The Police Commissioner, through the local Anti-Crime Police Division, immediately issued the “daspo Willie”.

The daspati will be banned from accessing public premises and businesses located in the area where the serious episode occurred. They will be denied access to restaurants, pastry shops, ice cream parlors, bars and similar establishments, dance halls, gaming halls and nightclubs precisely in order to prevent danger to public safety from their conduct.

Violation of the provision entails imprisonment from 6 months to 2 years and a fine from 8,000 to 20,000 euros.
