The book “History of Genoa volume 2”, edited by Giancarlo Rizzoglio, was presented at the Porto Antico. The President of the Coverciano Football Museum and of the Lega Pro Serie C, Matteo Marani, also spoke.

“Yes, I would say that in fact a broader journey than the rossoblù one – said Marani – in the sense that Genoa is the foundation of Italian football so obviously by delving deeper, by retracing the studying of the memorable pages of Genoa one crosses the entire history of Italian football Beyond the first titles, it saw the first championships and also some fundamental turning points from a regulatory point of view, of mergers and unifications of our championship among the federal championships etc. It is clear that this is the history of Italian football. I would also like to add a little about the history of the country in the sense that in the end a little because of the images that you see in this place in this museum how it is really very beautiful.

Marani then continued as follows: “I take this opportunity to congratulate all the people who take care of the Foundation, first of all obviously there was the possibility of seeing the urban planning, seeing the faces, the change of the city, of the men, of the women of Genoa of of the whole country it is truly something I believe a gift that is given to football and the passion for football.”

On Rizzoglio’s book, Marani said: “I believe that the work that Rizzoglio is doing is important, the first volume has already come out and I have started reading it. Now the second is coming. We talked to each other, he is already working on the 60s so obviously the other volumes will follow. The occasion, the opportunity is to delve a little deeper into the whole history of Italian football because from Genoa a whole scenario unfolds which is that of football of that historical era, also political because obviously they are years of great changes. In particular, this second volume begins to address the 1920s, particular years for the country because there had obviously been fascism since 1922 and how sport in turn became an even more important element of social life Before the war, obviously, the boys went to the front, almost all the boys from that championship until the post-war period, the first post-war period. So this is also a very nice, very interesting cross-section, I repeat, it is also a tool for in-depth analysis. A broader theme which is that of Italian football that season.”
