Prefect Campanaro immediately wanted it congratulate the first citizens for the recognition just received from the communities, expressing our best wishes for the challenging work that awaits each of them.

Today’s meeting it’s the opportunity to further strengthen interinstitutional relations which, as you well know, are based on the constitutional pillar of loyal collaboration. The years of the pandemic, which seem very distant, have given us a society with a profoundly changed face, first and foremost from a social and economic point of view. This required and still requires a decisive change of pace from the institutions so as not to be left behind. Today we all have the duty to be constantly questioned by reality to intercept the needs and requirements of our communities. In this, the Mayors are called to play a leading role due to their natural proximity to the citizens” stated Prefect Campanaro.

The meeting then got underway with an in-depth discussion of topics of common interest, on which the skills and functions of the Prefecture and Municipalities intertwine and coexist. In particular, the Government Representative’s spotlight focused on some more topical issues, starting from protection of public order and safety.

On the topic, Prefect Campanaro illustrated the itinerant path of the Provincial Committee for Public Order and Security which, for the second time in two years, made it possible to meet all the Mayors of the province with the aim of raising their awareness of the centrality of safety and, in particular, urban safety which impacts directly and more clearly on the quality of life of communities. Underlining the precious role of support and hinge that the first citizens play in the new governance system of security management, the Government Representative therefore encouraged the audience of the tricolor bands to implement integrated security tools with conviction.

Still on the same topic, the Government Representative invited the Mayors to do not lower your guard against the risk of criminal infiltration in the social, economic and institutional fabric of the province. In this direction, the latest half-yearly report on mafias by the Anti-Mafia Investigation Directorate (DIA) presented yesterday to Parliament demonstrates how the province of Potenza is no exception compared to the rest of the country. “A risk – underlined Prefect Campanaro – very high, especially in the current historical phase in which the PNRR plans are being implemented. A further guarantee tool made available to local administrations is, in this case, the prefectural coordination booth that we installed at the end of last May.”.

During the meeting, the Government Representative drew the attention of the newly elected Mayors to other delicate and decisive issues, including the need to develop Municipal Civil Protection Plans to complete the complex and multifaceted system envisaged by the legislation, where every single institutional actor plays an essential role. There was also a specific focus on the topic of welcoming asylum seekers, for which the Prefect asked for the maximum solidarity commitment from Local Authorities.

Finally, Campanaro addressed the invitation to the first citizens to shape the relationship with minorities in the City Council to the principles of fair discussion and maximum transparency of administrative action.

This Prefecture will walk alongside you, remembering how decisive teamwork is for the growth of our communities, through which we can truly develop the principle of social cohesion to which our Head of State very often reminds us” concluded the Prefect.
