WEATHER FORECAST An Atlantic trough during this afternoon (Thursday 20 June), will enter the Mediterranean bringing colder and more humid air masses which will determine highly unstable weather conditions in the north where they may give rise to precipitation, predominantly downpours or thunderstorms, which may be locally very intense.
The low pressure area from Spain is approaching Piedmont today, bringing clouds and scattered and intermittent precipitation, including showers and thunderstorms, more intense in the Alpine sectors.
Yellow alert in northern Piedmont
An intensification of the phenomena is expected from late evening, especially in the northern sectors of the region, due to the entry of colder air at high altitude which will lead to moderate or strong showers and thunderstorms until tomorrow morning (Friday 12th). Subsequently, a general attenuation is expected in the afternoon, but still with possible isolated thunderstorms, weak or moderate, on the central-northern plains of the region until the evening.
In light of the expected situation, the Arpa Piemonte functional center has issued a yellow alert for hydrogeological risk today and tomorrow in the northern and western Alpine areas and in the central-northern plains.
The bad weather will also affect the other regions of the North with possible heavy showers, frequent electrical activity, local hailstorms and strong gusts of wind. On the basis of the expected and ongoing phenomena, an orange alert has been assessed for tomorrow, Friday 21 June, in sectors of Lombardy; yellow alert in Valle d’Aosta, Veneto, Friuli Venezia Giulia, autonomous province of Bolzano and sectors of Piedmont, Lombardy and Emilia-Romagna.
