Peccioli it is a hilltop village in the province of Pisa, nestled between Pontedera and Volterra, surrounded by a green landscape and a city wall, with traces of settlements dating back to the Neolithic. What distinguishes the Tuscan village is the Peccioli systema model of “good practices” born in 1997 with the mayor several times Renzo Macelloni. The project’s initial objective was to manage the complex problems linked to the waste disposal plant in the hamlet of Legoli – at the limits of an environmental emergency -, transforming it into a futuristic plant. This generated profits of millions of euros which were reinvested in services for the community, the environment and culture, also winning the XI edition of The Village of Villages 2024. “We were the only Tuscan municipality in the race” explained the mayor Macelloni, “this victory is the result of a project that we have been carrying out for years”.
Today the village returns as a protagonist with Eataly Art House – E.ART.H (the project dedicated to contemporary art conceived by Oscar Farinetti, founder of Eataly) who chose it for the creation of Peccioli: tales of a seasona project launched in July 2023 and which includes four residencies, a publication, a public program and a restitution exhibition that will animate the streets and buildings of Peccioli from 21 June to 15 September 2024.

“Peccioli: tales of a season”: The exhibition spread across the village of Peccioli in Tuscany
The exhibition, edited by Giangavino Pazzola (associate curator of CAMERA Italian Center for Photography of Turin), will invade the urban space of Peccioli with shots of Karim El Maktafi (Desenzano del Garda, 1992), Camilla Ferrari (Milan 1992), Sara Scanderebech (Nardò, 1985) e Riccardo Svelto (Bagno a Ripoli, 1989), returning to the public the observations on the Tuscan village gained last year during the residency. The result is an exhibition that will animate various places in Peccioli (including institutional spaces such as Palazzo Senza Tempo, and outdoor sites that support Peccioli, Legoli and Belvedere), enhancing the territory along the town and beyond the walls.

The village of Peccioli in Tuscany: between local identity and international creativity
The project conceived by Eataly Art House – E.ART.H for Peccioli develops around the historical identity of the village and its creativity with an international vocation, focusing above all on the waste disposal area of Legoli. The cycle of residencies promoted by Eataly Art House and supported by the Peccioliper Foundation has the aim of stimulating a more in-depth knowledge of the territory and its citizens, encouraging meeting opportunities to develop a true relationship between the artist and the city fabric, from from which to draw inspiration for the conception of new works.
