CARPI – Felix Mendelssohnan exceptional genius, was the first musician to conduct the orchestra from the podium with the baton and the first musical star to reap successes on an almost worldwide level, receiving invitations to perform from all European countries and even overseas, with a crowd of die-hard fans and even an all-female sequel. His cosmopolitan dimension in fact far surpassed that of Haydn and Beethoven: the numerous journeys undertaken in his short life have always left traces in his music, especially the symphonic one. And it will be dedicated precisely to Mendelssohn’s international experiences Athens, Scotland, Italythe free concert lesson by Ensemble Concordanze which, after having taken it to the prisons of Ravenna and Ferrara, as well as to two treatment facilities, Oikos-CEIS and Casa di Tina, will be presented to the public of the Rainbow Circle of Santa Croce of Carpi on Sunday 23 June at 11.00as part of the ‘Classico è poi lei’ exhibition, promoted by ARCI with the support of the CR Carpi Foundation.

In his twenties, Mendelssohn discovered the fascinating Scottish land, so dear to the Romantics; the following year he undertook his personal “Journey to Italy” in the footsteps of dear Goethe: from these experiences two of his most popular pieces were born, two masterpieces, then and now: the concert overture “The Hebrides and the Italian Symphony. But the symphonic piece that first hit the mark in his career, the greatest manifestation of his genius, was the concert overture inspired by Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”: composed when he was only 17 years old, this stroke of genius overflowing with inventiveness, populated by fairy creatures, bathed in a magical light, filled with extraordinary melodies and fairy orchestral colors.

These are precisely the three pieces which, composing a perfect portrait of the global pop star Mendelssohn, symphonist and orchestra conductor, will also constitute the program of Sunday’s concert: the three symphonic masterpieces will be performed in original transcriptions, created by Concordanze, which on the one hand they will make them rediscovered in a different light, but above all, being transportable to any place, they allow the Bolognese musicians to take Mendelssohn on a new journey, to bring his wonderful music to those who are further away, such as prisoners and people suffering from mental distress.
