Eight arrests in Cerignola: criminal association and theft/video – Pugliapress

The State Police of Foggia carried out an operation at dawn that seems to have come out of an action film: eight people were arrested on charges of criminal association aimed at aggravated theft, robbery and possession of weapons. The investigations, started last February, made it possible to dismantle a criminal group specialized in thefts from ATMs and robberies of commercial establishments.

The investigators of the Foggia Flying Squad, assisted by the Cerignola police station and other special units, launched a real manhunt, employing around 80 agents in a complex operation which also involved the Crime Prevention Departments, the Scientific Police and the Dog Trackers.

The criminal group acted with almost military precision, studying in detail the areas of interest, escape routes and the positioning of surveillance cameras. They used powerful cars, often stolen or rented, to quickly escape after the attacks.

But that’s not all: “our crime heroes” distinguished themselves by using homemade explosive devices, nicknamed “marmots”, to access cash deposits in ATMs. These devices caused extensive damage to buildings and posed a serious danger to anyone nearby. Once they obtained the loot, they used spiked bands to slow down the police during their escape, putting the safety of the officers at risk.

The investigations made it possible to seize several “marmots”, wigs, burglary tools and approximately 11 kg of explosives. The recovered stolen cars were returned to their rightful owners, but the investigators’ work does not stop there. The position of the suspects is being examined by the Judicial Authority and, until a final sentence is reached, they must be considered innocent.

This shot at the first light of dawn once again highlighted the determination and professionalism of our police forces, engaged daily in the fight against organized crime.
