Puglia confirms itself as a leader for the quality of bathing water – BarlettaLive.it

Puglia is confirmed first in Italy for the fourth consecutive year for the quality of bathing water, with 99.7% of the water classified as excellent. The data, collected by the National System for Environmental Protection (SNPA), highlights a constant commitment to protecting and improving the quality of the Apulian coasts.

At the press conference on 20 June 2024, at the headquarters of the General Management of Arpa Puglia, the president of the Puglia Region Michele Emiliano, the regional councilor for the Environment Serena Triggiani, the general director of Arpa Puglia Vito Bruno, the scientific director Vincenzo Campanaro and the director of the Regional Sea Center Nicola Ungaro.

President Emiliano underlined the importance of teamwork, involving citizens, municipalities, businesses and the Apulian Aqueduct. “Arpa is the proactive guardian of these environmental remediation results,” said Emiliano, also thanking the young professionals of Arpa Puglia for their commitment.

Councilor Triggiani highlighted how Puglia is a leading region thanks to constant management, monitoring and control work. You also highlighted the awarding of 24 Blue Flags by the Foundation for Environmental Education, which confirm the sustainable management of the Apulian territory.

Vito Bruno reiterated the excellence of Puglia, certified by the SNPA, and highlighted how continuous monitoring ensures not only environmental quality, but also the health of the waters in which citizens and tourists bathe.

As regards specifically the city of Barletta, the bathing waters are confirmed to be of high quality. In the province of Barletta-Andria-Trani (Bat), 46 sections intended for bathing were monitored, confirming excellent results. Thanks to the work of Arpa Puglia, which carries out approximately 8,500 laboratory analytical determinations per year, the citizens and visitors of Barletta can enjoy a clean and safe sea.

Nationally, 95.6% of the Italian coast is classified as excellent, with a further 2.9% considered good. The waters of lakes and rivers also show positive data, with 95.2% of the monitored waters classified as excellent.

The water classification is based on European directives and monitoring over the last four years, with continuous sampling during the bathing season. Detailed data is available on the Arpa Puglia website, where it is possible to view the most up-to-date results via an interactive map.
