Ballot, final hours of election campaign in Potenza

In Basilicata, Potenza is the only municipality, of the 52 that went to the vote on 8 and 9 June, which returns to the polls for the run-off on 23 and 24 June. The challenge for the new mayor is between Francesco Fanelli (centre-right) and Vincenzo Telesca (centre-left). In the first round – with a turnout of 69.1% – Fanelli supported by seven lists, also including several exponents of Azione and Italia Viva, obtained 15,416 equal to 40.6%, against 12,319, equal to 32 .4%, of Telesca, outgoing municipal councilor, who has the support of five lists, including one “attributable” to the Democratic Party but without the Dem symbol. In view of the vote on Sunday and Monday, the center-left has regrouped. Telesca and the other two candidates attributable to the centre-left Pierluigi Smaldone (Potenza returns) and Francesco Giuzio (La Basilicata Possible) have reached a programmatic agreement, for the achievement of some points to be placed on the government’s agenda, even if they have not formalized the similarity. The coalition that supports Telesca expressed ”deep satisfaction for the important programmatic agreement reached with the alternative forces to the city centre-right” and rejected the criticisms of the centre-right which spoke of a ‘mix-up’.
