celebration of short cinema in Trieste

TRIESTE – The 25th edition of the ShorTS International Film Festivaldirected by Maurizio di Rienzo, will be held in Trieste from 28 June to 6 July 2024. This edition promises a rich and varied programme, with 117 works divided into seven competition sections. The screenings will take place at the Muzio de Tommasini Public Garden, the Miela Theater and the Xenia Hall.

Prestigious guests and prizes

Numerous prestigious guests will enrich this edition of the festival, with prizes and masterclasses dedicated to leading figures of Italian cinema. Simone Massirenowned director and animator, will receive the Soul Cinema Award. Brothers Damiano and Fabio D’Innocenzo will be honored with the Cinema of the Present Award for their contribution to realistic and evocative cinema. Carlotta Gambaa young emerging actress, will receive the Perspective Award. Also, the actors Isabella Ragonese And Michele Riondino will be rewarded as Interpreters of the Present.

The sections of the festival

The festival offers a wide range of sections which celebrate short cinema in all its forms.

  • Sea footage will present 45 short films from 43 countries, offering an international overview of the vitality of short films.
  • ShorTS Express will propose 23 short films lasting a maximum of 5 minutes, competing for the Audience Award.
  • Eco-ShorTS And Italy in ShorTS will present 11 environmentally themed shorts and 11 Italian shorts respectively, both competing for the Audience Award.
  • Shorter Kids’n’Teensdedicated to younger people, will feature 20 short films selected and judged by a jury of children and teenagers aged between 8 and 15.
  • ShorTS Immersive will offer 7 works to explore with customized viewers, for an innovative cinematic experience.

Focus on Turkish short films

The annual focus of the festival will be dedicated to Turkish short cinema, with the screening of five recent short films that will close the festival. This choice reflects the festival’s interest in cultural diversity and the quality of international works.

The campolungo section

The section returns Campolungowhich this year will be dedicated to Laura Samani, director from Trieste known for her personal style deeply rooted in the traditions and culture of Friuli Venezia Giulia. Her masterclass will offer an in-depth look at her creative path, from short film to feature film.

The online festival

This year too, the ShorTS IFF it will be accessible online thanks to the collaboration with the platform MYmovies ONE. From 29 June to 7 July, it will be possible to view 65 short films previously unreleased in Italy. All information and access methods will be available on the site maremetraggio.com.

ShorTS comics marathon

There ShorTS Comics Marathon will involve 70 cinephile designers in a relay of cinema-related drawings. This initiative aims to connect the world of comics with cinema, offering a unique and creative perspective on cinematographic language.

Panels, workshops and insights

In addition to screenings, the festival will offer panels, workshops and insights on various aspects of short cinema. These events represent an important training and networking opportunity for screenwriters, directors and industry professionals.
