PALERMO – The Sicilian Democratic Party in the square, alongside the CGIL which called a demonstration this morning to relaunch the right to health and the public health service in Sicily.

“Healthcare that doesn’t work is one of the most direct and evident dysfunctions that the wicked differentiated autonomy desired by the Meloni government, in the silence of the president of the Sicilian region Renato Schifani, will produce to the detriment of Sicilian citizens”, say Sergio Lima, member of the regional secretariat and member of the national management and Alfredo Rizzo, coordinator of the regional secretariat.

The event was organized by the CGIL, which after the concentration in front of the Sicilian Parliament moved to Palazzo d’Orleans, seat of the regional government.

Among the participants also the regional Dem deputy, Valentina Chinnici. The numbers on the health front are a true war bulletin: the State has in fact appropriated over 1 billion and 300 million from Sicily, while over 800 thousand Sicilians decide not to get treatment or to do it elsewhere every year, there are 30 thousand people waiting for hospitalization and 55 thousand those waiting for a diagnostic visit (data provided by the CGIL).

“Today Schifani was silent while the centre-right government approved the law condemning the South to backwardness to the full advantage of the North – they add – he finds the word again to express indignation against the infinite waiting lists and applaud the intervention of the Minister of Health. Welcome back to us – they conclude – to the President of the Region, but it would have been better if he continued to maintain a guilty silence rather than commenting like any other tourist passing through the island”.
