In Aversa, a building and sanitary material warehouse caught fire. Around 12pm yesterday the fire caused a large black and toxic cloud, visible even from Naples. The causes need to be ascertained.

What happened

Around 12pm yesterday, Wednesday 19 June, a large sanitary warehouse in via Europa, between the municipalities of Aversa (Caserta) and Giugliano in Campania (Naples) went up in flames. Plastic materials inside the plant caught fire, forming a large black and highly toxic cloud. The column of smoke was visible even from tens of kilometers away and from the regional capital.

The intervention to put out the flames

Six fire brigade teams from the provincial command of Caserta, from the detachments of Aversa and Marcianise and from the command of Naples, Benevento and Avellino intervened on site with the support of three tankers and the police. No people were reported injured in the fire.

Two houses on fire and inconvenience for families

The very high flames also reached two neighboring apartments. Some families were evicted as a precaution, most barricaded themselves in their homes, closing doors and windows, despite the hot from the orange mark in Naples. In just a few minutes the air became unbreathable and dangerous for health. The area affected by the fire was cordoned off by the local police and law enforcement agencies to facilitate extinguishing operations.
