Wimbledon, the Italians’ program: Sinner, Berrettini and seven others

The wait is over: we start with Wimbledon, the third Slam of 2024. And the two tennis players capable of winning a Major this year will immediately take to the field: Jannik Sinner (Australian Open) and Carlos Alcaraz (Roland Garros). As per tradition, as the reigning champion, the Spaniard will open the tournament on the center court: appointment at 2:30 pm for the challenge against the Estonian Mark Lajal, followed by Alexandrova-Raducanu and Dolehide-Gauff. Court number 1, therefore, for the number 1, Sinner: the Italian will close the day against Yannick Hanfmann, after Kovacevic-Medvedev (at 2 pm) and Bektas-Sabalenka. It is difficult to see Jannik on the court before 6 pm.

caps and paolini

The opening day of Wimbledon will be full of Italy, even before Sinner. The first Italians to play will be Matteo Arnaldi and Fabio Fognini, both on the pitch at 12: the first will play against Frances Tiafoe, the second will face Luca Van Assche. The Frenchman, followed by Vincenzo Santopadre (former coach of Matteo Berrettini), entered the draw in place of Dominik Koepfer, who withdrew from the tournament due to an ankle ligament problem. Next, watch out for two big shots: Berrettini will challenge Marton Fucsovics in the second match on court 12, while Jasmine Paolini will face Sara Sorribes Tormo in the second match on Court 3. For both, therefore, an appointment in the early afternoon.

the other Italians

In addition to Sinner’s match, four other matches are scheduled later in the day with Italian protagonists: Trevisan-Keys (third match on field 3, therefore after Paolini), Bellucci-Shelton (fourth on field 18), Errani- Noskova (fourth on court 4) and Navone-Sonego (fourth on court 5). In short: a lot of attention paid to Jannik, who will be the first Italian to play at Wimbledon as the number 1 seed, but there won’t just be Sinner on the first day of the Championships. The All England Club tournament will be broadcast on Sky Sports, also streaming on NOW.
