One of the Lavori in Comune projects is called “Knitted heart“. During the workshop the “yellow t-shirts” create small crocheted and knitted garments to be donated to the Neonatology department of the Ravenna hospital which uses them for children born prematurelythe.

Today the boys and girls and the volunteers met Professor Federico Marchetti, director of the Pediatrics and Intensive Care Unit of the Santa Maria delle Croci hospital in Ravena, the coordinator Sara Tremamunno and the nurse of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Rita Blaco, who wanted to bear testimony in support of these important initiatives which give further value to the multi-professional teams, made up of healthcare workers and volunteers, who work to support the reception and neuro-behavioral development of preterm births, where everything human support and warmth contribute to their well-being and better development.

The boys and girls were invited to visit the hospital’s Neonatology department. Also present were the councilor for Decentralization Federica Moschini and the coordinator of Lavori in Comune, Roberto Gardini.

They signed up for the “Cuore di Maglia” project 1 boy and 11 girls which with the supervision and teaching of 8 volunteers have met every morning since last Monday, will end tomorrow, Friday 21 June, at Casa Vignuzzi.

For years, the laboratory has been supported by the “Cuore di Maglia” Association, which was founded in 2008 with offices throughout Italy and a section also in Ravenna. The volunteers are skilled in handmade work with needles and crochet, capable of making layettes, soft hats, shoes and blankets with the aim of wrapping and warming the newborns hospitalized in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of the Santa Maria delle Croci hospital and also the hearts of their families.

Since 2013 the Association has collaborated with the municipal administration as part of the “Lavori in Comune” project, this year in its 13th edition, involving young people aged 14 to 18, who participate in the “yellow shirts” volunteering week, with the aim of bringing them closer and making them aware of the world of volunteering.
