A maxi marijuana plantation made up of 500 stems was discovered by the Carabinieri of the Crotone Forestry Unit in the Brasimato area, in the municipality of Crotone. The military, who in this period also intensified their controls to prevent and combat the phenomenon of forest fires, came across, within a eucalyptus wooded area which is not easy to access with vehicles, a large clearing where they were there are over 500 marijuana plants arranged in different rows and with an average height of about one meter.
The plantation covered an area of 600 square meters. Also seized was an irrigation system consisting of a pump and distribution pipes, which allowed water to be supplied from a nearby reservoir and a surveillance system that allowed observation of the area.
The entire cultivation, under the direction of the Crotone Public Prosecutor’s Office, was eradicated by the Carabinieri, also supported by the Nipaaf of Crotone, and by the Carabinieri of Scandale and the Cirò Forestry Unit, who proceeded with the destruction of the plants.
The investigations continue, also on the basis of the clues collected on site, to identify the individuals responsible for the cultivation. Once collected and placed on the market, the marijuana could have generated an illicit profit of around 200 thousand euros.
