Especially on Tuesday evening, hundreds of high school graduates gathered in Piazza Giacomo Matteotti to sing the famous song by Antonello Venditti “Night before exams” during the “R-Estate a Guidonia” festival underway until July 9th.

There voltage in the square it was palpable, but the boys also let themselves go to many others emotionsas the joy of being together and the sadness of having to leave classmates after 5 years side by side.

And while among the tables we were discussing the possible protagonist authors of yesterday’s First Test, we had the opportunity to ask some students a few questions, in order to understand how young people deal with the Maturity.

Finally, the eighteen year old Tiziano Firmanistudent in the fifth class AFM (Administration, Finance and Marketing) of the Technical Institute for Commercial, Tourism and Surveyors “Leonardo Pisano”.

Is maturity the conclusion of a journey or a halfway stage towards a new beginning?

Amalia Polodeanu, 5J: “The high school diploma is certainly not a simple final stage in our studies. I believe, in fact, that it is only one of the first important exams that will be faced in life, both for those who attend university and for those who choose to do without it.

In life we never stop learning, and therefore we will continually be subjected to endless tests, perhaps without even realizing it.

Maturity, in this sense, is first and foremost, but absolutely not the most important.”

Alessio Galeotafiore, 5C: “In my opinion, maturity is an intermediate phase, both between two courses of study, such as high school and university, and in life itself. I believe, however, that it is not as fundamental as they want us to believe, especially in the way it is structured.

We kids risk ruining 5 years of sacrifice and study solely on the basis of 2 written exams and an oral performance, which do not take into account the path taken up to that point.

I therefore believe that the conduct of this exam should be reviewed, making it such that the children are rewarded for what they have done in 5 years, and not just for the ‘performance’ of 3 tests”.

Tiziano Firmani, 5AFM: “Personally I believe that high school graduation is first of all the conclusion of a 5-year journey, and secondly I also see it as a springboard towards a new beginning.

In fact, once you pass this exam, you lose contact with many friends, but at the same time you make new acquaintances in the corridors of universities, which will represent a new reality for many to face.”

Does studying for the final exam start in September or is it limited to the last few months before the exam?

Amalia Polodeanu, 5J: “Certainly the study for this exam should be spread over as much time as possible, perhaps starting from September itself.

Personally, I have always tried to keep up with the program, taking notes and never falling behind, so that I didn’t have to catch up on everything at the last minute.”

Alessio Galeotafiore, 5C: “In theory, to best tackle this exam one should divide the study into several months starting from the beginning of the year, but personally I don’t feel that I have succeeded one hundred percent.

For this reason, in fact, I now found myself having to recover entire topics and study them almost from scratch, slowing down the very long pre-exam revision even further.”

Tiziano Firmani, 5AFM: “Undoubtedly for the final exam, prolonged and well-diluted study is necessary, so as not to arrive too tired in June, but also so as not to arrive completely unprepared.

Personally, this year I believe I have done my best to stay in line with the program, even if I have treated some topics more lightly”.

What do you think your grade will be? Do you think it will be important in your life?

Amalia Polodeanu, 5J: “I hope to come out with more than seventy, because I believe I have the right skills to obtain a similar grade.

If it weren’t like this I would certainly be sorry but I would get over it, because I believe that votes are worth little or nothing, and above all they do not serve to define a person but only a ‘performance'”.

Alessio Galeotafiore, 5C: “I hope to come out with a grade above 70 even if personally I don’t like the idea of being identified by a number. In the future of work, this evaluation will have little value, because what will really count, and what employers will look at, are university grades.”

Tiziano Firmani, 5AFM: “Personally I hope to come out with eighty or a little more, which are the grades I think are right after my studies.

I also remain of the opinion that one cannot dwell too much on an evaluation, and I believe that numbers do not define whether or not I am a good student and a good citizen. Despite this, however, I will work as hard as possible to conclude this 5 year period in the best possible way.”

What are your ambitions for the future?

Amalia Polodeanu, 5J: “My dream is to become an airline pilot, so I don’t see university in my future, at least for the moment.

I will attend courses, first to become a hostess and then to get my pilot’s license. This will therefore be my field of study, not behind a desk but a thousand meters above the sky and behind a steering wheel.”

Alessio Galeotafiore, 5C: “I have already signed up and am studying for the entrance test to the faculty of Political Science. My dream is to start a career in politics, and I believe this university is right for me.

I am already active within a party, to ‘experiment’ a bit, and I confess I am very happy and confident with this choice of mine”.

Tiziano Firmani, 5AFM: “I have already taken and passed the entrance test for the Faculty of Economics and Big Data at RomaTre, all I need to do is enroll.

In fact, when I grow up I would like to be a data analyst for a bank or a large company and for this reason I decided to undertake this particular cycle of studies”.
