AGRIGENTO – Traffic, fires, water and wasteare the topics addressed in a provincial committee for public order and safety which took place at the territorial government office in the presence of the prefect of Agrigento Filippo Romanoof the commanders of the police forces, of the Prosecutor of Agrigento Giovanni Di Leo, and of the mayors of Agrigento, Porto Empedocle and Realmonte, and of the Anas leaders.

Quieter traffic in the summer

The first topic addressed was that of roads. To facilitate vehicular circulation in the summer period, Anas has communicated in recent days the reopening of the stretch of state road 115, near the Ciuccafa district in the area overlooking Lido Azzurro and Marinella. “We would have a quieter summer from the point of view of traffic – said the prefect Filippo Romano – at the same time the planning between Anas and the Municipality of Agrigento has started”.

“In addition to the restyling works on the road in the Mosella district – added Romano – a roundabout near the junction of state road 640 which will, on the one hand, reduce road accidents and, on the other, also allow traffic to flow into the Moses village neighborhood”.

Squeeze on abandoned waste

Pressure on abandoned waste along state road 640. The Roman prefect announced more controls, fixed video surveillance and consequently not only fines but also criminal charges which also include the seizure of the vehicle. “We cannot afford – stated the prefect – to have an important title like Agrigento capital 2025 and then find ourselves with parking areas full of waste and many negative reviews from tourists”.

The problem of fires

Alongside this problem is also that of fires, especially those caused by arsonists. “We have already given more attention to the topic with meetings in the winter – Romano clarified – have been maintain fire breaksobviously little can be done when an arsonist sets fire, but now we will use the Forestry Corps drones which allow us to reach everywhere, above all for a deterrent effect”.

The theme of water and the water crisis

Maximum attention on the part of the Roman prefect on the topic of water and water crisis. In Sciacca the truck drivers have returned to protest but, from this point of view, the prefect said: “the police will carry out their checks and accurate checks on the subjects and we will evaluate every legal provision, including the seizure of the vehicle. It is unimaginable that one could refuse that one’s water resource comes from Aica.”

Aica’s goal is to bring the tanker service into orderand to do so he organized a procedure which, however, water haulage companies consider tortuous and unnecessarily complicated.

In the meantime, between postponed delivery shifts and prospects that remain uncertain, in the context of an inevitable rationing of water resources within the state of emergency declared in recent months by Renato Schifani, the only tankers available in Sciacca are those managed by the Municipality, one made available by the Municipality of Montevago, the other by Aica.
