The councilor for equal opportunities, Jacopo Buffolo responds to the Veronese member of the Fratelli d’Italia, Marco Padovani regarding the controversy over the Verona Pride parade.
“The objective is to look at the important evolution that the Municipality of Verona has made by giving concrete citizenship to everyone, regardless of their sexual orientations and gender identity. – specifies the councilor – Until two years ago, the infamous “Homophobic Motions of 1995” were still in force, projecting our city into times much further than the 21st century. What is unseemly is that they lasted until the arrival of this Administration, in the sign of contempt which is certainly not a value that improves the quality of life of a community. We are proud of the city we are and are becoming and aware that no future can be built without inclusion, equality and welcome. It is no coincidence that Italy today finds itself behind Hungary and Slovakia in the map of respect for civil rights in the European Union (https://www.ilga-europe.org/report/rainbow-europe-2023/), not by chance the honorable member belongs to the same political group that does not sign the EU declaration on LGBT rights. Clinging to the episode of a person in their underwear in a procession, which happens every day in the swimming pool and at the seaside in front of children without arousing the slightest interest, demonstrates what an old Chinese proverb says: you look at your finger and not at the moon.
