The mayoral candidate, beaten by just 21 votes by Ibattici and now in opposition, looks to the future: “We want to avoid making the political debate in the town even worse. Voted by one citizen out of two, we’ll start from here.”
ALBINEA (Reggio Emilia) – The ballots that decreed the election of Roberta Ibattici (United for Albinea) as mayor of Albinea will not be recounted, twenty-one of those with a difference with her rival Corrado Ferrari of Viviamo Albinea. The latter communicated this by sending a note to the press that we propose to you. One thing seems certain, in five years Ferrari will be back in contention for the Italian title.

Viviamo Albinea receives continuous requests from its supporters to recount the votes of the recent municipal elections. Of course, 21 votes difference is very few and we understand theirs disappointment. But after thinking carefully, and after discussing it with our list representatives, we decided not to go down this path. The result is too random in the face of both one huge economic expense that of a worsening of the political debate which would only bring harm to the community of Albinea.
Of course, events happened at the polls that shouldn’t have happened and behaviors that shouldn’t have happened, but we believe they were the result of inexperience and political rudeness.
Now we must abandon useless recriminations, which only serve to take up time and energy. Time and energy that we must instead use to consolidate the resounding consensus we have received and to structure Viviamo Albinea for these 5 years of mandate. We challenged not only an electoral list, but a consolidated system of power with ramifications in many associations operating in the area, and despite this we were voted for by one voter out of two. We have to start again from here. Unfortunately, the majority system assigns us 4 councilors against the 8 plus the mayor assigned to the winner. It is a situation that does not reflect the percentages achieved by the two lists and which puts us in a strong minority position. What we can, and must, do is continue to advocate, both in the City Council and outside, that vision of Albinea that garnered so much enthusiasm during the electoral campaign.
We are a real civic listbased on people and skills, and unfortunately we have not been able to make everyone understand this but we will continue to explain it also to those who reject our approach a priori, welcoming into our fold those who want to commit to Albinea. It will be a tough 5 years but we will face them with discipline and a pinch of light-heartedness, communicating with everyone and continuing to cultivate the relationships we established with the Albino people during the electoral campaign.
