«enough with the administration of the Blind Union of Naples»

A procession with colorful balloons, posters and musicians to attract the attention of the institutions. It was the protest of groups of associates of theItalian Union of the Blind and visually impaired who, this morning, demonstrated to demand the end of the commissionership of the Naples office.

At 10 the sit-in began of over a hundred demonstrators in Piazza Dante who subsequently moved until they reached via San Giuseppe dei Nudiwhere the Neapolitan headquarters of the Union is located, which deals with guaranteeing and protecting the rights of visually impaired people.

«The commissionership began in August of 2023 for administrative and management issues that cannot justify the extension of the commissioner’s activity until March 2025, as expected” he explains Giuseppe Fornaro president of the Cives office for the assistance of blind, visually impaired and disabled people in Naples who underlines how «this management situation is effectively blocking various activities and services since now only ordinary management is guaranteed, for these reasons we took to the streets to protest» .

To ask for an end to the administration of theBlind Union Neapolitans were also many volunteers lined up alongside the members who, as they wrote on the protest signs, intend to “regain control of the association with democratic elections”.

«From 28 August 2023 to today, we have faced numerous inconveniences, for example the representations that were present in public structures were closed due to political choices, while others with obvious problems remained open. We want to return to normality” adds Fornaro who was a national councilor of the Union and now coordinates the associations “Adac Aps”, “Abili alla Vita”, “Asd Real Vesuviana” and “Solid’arte”.

The protest was clearly not shared by the national leaders of the UICI who, regarding the sit-in, made it known of the existence of “two precautionary sentences from the judge of Court of Naples who rejected the requests to interrupt the administration”. However, according to the members who joined the demonstration, this data should be updated to the current situation and, as announced this morning by the blind and partially sighted people involved in the sit-in, «the Dante square it’s just the beginning of our mobilization.”
