Aversa. The letter: “future centre-left: political analysis is needed”

“Now, in light of the result of the Aversa municipal elections, we centre-left supporters and voters ask for a debate and discussion that can no longer be postponed”.

It’s a letter signed by Giuseppe Caianiello, Luca de Rosa, Daniela Borrini, Franco Della Volpe, Elena Donadio, Annagrazia Rambone and Filippo Cantile.

“The centre-left coalition of Aversa is defeated in this electoral round. The 5 lists that formed our coalition collected 21% with 5,608 votes. The mayoral candidate, however, 5,885 (277 more votes) which were not enough to go to the run-off.”

LATE CHOICE OF MAYOR CANDIDATE

“A real shame, because the 25% objective to access it would certainly have been within the reach of the centre-left. The difference was only 1,000 votes (Farinaro 6,900). The late choice of the mayoral candidate, made just a few hours after the presentation of the lists and after months of exhausting and quarrelsome negotiations, proved to be a convincing choice for the electorate as it managed to outnumber the consensus of the lists of the entire coalition”.

“The negative outcome was unfortunately determined by the objective inconsistency of the lists, in practice empty shells. In particular those of the two national parties, PD and M5S, which should have been driving forces for the entire coalition. The M5S has collapsed in consensus in the city from 26% in the concurrent European elections to just 4% in the municipal elections”.

“Of the approximately 1,000 votes on the list, less than half (487) appear to have expressed preferences for the candidates. In the list of a PD reduced to 1,945 votes, a paltry 7%, there were many candidates, practically 50%, with zero or few preference units”.

“About 50% of the candidates on the 5 lists achieved zero preferences or some units of preferences. An objectively offensive fact for democracy and towards its voters. On the PD list itself, the preferences were all polarized on just 4 candidates (out of 24) who alone received 75% of the votes.”

“A list therefore not built to maximize the consensus of citizens, with 24 candidates that would speak to the city, but in fact only 4 candidates, in the field for an entirely internal party competition. These are the numbers, in their objectivity, free from any partisan opinion.”

“Only 3 other high-profile candidacies would have been enough (some former administrator or former councillor) – a range between 500, 1000 votes in subtracting and adding – to allow our mayoral candidate to easily reach the run-off”.

“Already from the first reactions published on the web and in the newspapers by the protagonists within the parties, we seem to be able to say that time has stopped with the dissolution of the City Council and with the same reasons that determined the late choice of the mayoral candidate and the presentation of so few competitive lists, with so few actual candidates, aimed exclusively at the struggle between factions present within them”.

“Now, in light of this picture, we supporters and voters of the centre-left in Aversa, without party membership, who, with passion, generosity, disinterest have contributed to this result, ask for a calm and objective analysis of the vote in front of the city and the our voters, friends and comrades. Debate and discussion absolutely no longer postponable.”

“At risk of further political and electoral weakening of the centre-left forces and the strengthening of the convictions of those who abstain and have already abstained”.
