Cocaine in Sicily crossing the Strait: two Sicilian-Calabrian cells eliminated

With Operation “Devotion” there District Anti-Mafia Directorate of the Catania Police Headquarters in collaboration with the Flying Squad of Reggio Calabria and Syracuse has ordered the investigation on 29 people of which 13 recipients of the precautionary custody measure in prison on charges of criminal conspiracy aimed at drug trafficking.

Among these there is Bruno Cidonia devotee and drug trafficker, who has been in business with criminal groups from Catania for years, until he took up his base in San Giovanni Galermo to follow the activities closely.

The investigations

At the end of the investigations started in 2020, the Etna Police Headquarters identified and eliminated the activity of two cells involved in cocaine trafficking. The first led by Carmelo Scilioalready known to the police for cocaine trafficking in Catania and already under house arrest, the second that of Bruno Cidoniwho was in business from Calabria thanks to the activity of a Calabrian-Sicilian group capable within six months of managing beyond 20 transports and deliveries crossing the Strait.

The drugs were transported by car to hidden spaces to be taken to the Catania bases of San Giovanni Galermo and San Giorgio.

During the investigation the Police managed to seize 11kg of cocaineone 38 caliber revolver pistol with the serial number worn off and also from the Catania house of Bruno Cidoni 90,300 euros in cash which had been walled up.

The names

The persons recipients of the precautionary custody measure in prison, in addition to Cidoni and Scilio, are Addamo Giuseppe, Luigi Danilo Garozzo, Gino Gueli, Francesco Mannino, Antonio Pezzano, Angelo Ribera, Francesco and Pietro Sedici, Salvatore Torrisi, Santo Vitale and Pasquale Zagari. The latter together with Pezzano and Cidoni were the Calabrian references of the Catania cell. Based on the activity reconstructed by the investigations, Francesco Sedici was a permanent courier for the transport of cocaine from Calabria to Sicily.
