On Sunday 23rd and Monday 24th there will be run-offs in nine municipalities in Emilia-Romagna, 79% of the mayors already elected are men

Voting will take place in nine municipalities in Emilia-Romagna on Sunday 23 and Monday 24 June to elect the new mayors. Casalecchio, Castel Maggiore and Pianoro in the Bologna area, Mirandola and Nonantola in the Modena area, Savignano sul Rubicone (Fc), Zerba (Pc), Copparo and Tresignana (Fe) return to the polls for the runoff.
Only 21% of the mayors elected in the first round in Emilia-Romagna, 46 out of 216, are women, compared to the 170 males elected. This is the data highlighted by a statistical analysis of last Sunday’s elections. Given that it will not change significantly after the run-offs on Sunday and Monday: of the nine scheduled, five propose all-male challenges and the election of a woman is only certain in one case, in Nonantola. Those elected have an average age of 50.6 years: the most represented group among the new first citizens is that between 45 and 59 years (93), followed by that between 30 and 44 years. Of the total elected mayors, 96 (27 women and 69 men, 45% of the total) are new, even if not all of them are new, because for some it is a return after years. While 88 (40%, 12 women and 76 men) continue with a second mandate. For 32, 15% of the total, it is the third (or fourth) mandate, in small municipalities. Overall, there are 17 outgoing mayors who, having re-nominated, were defeated at the polls. While 9 people who were mayors in the past have returned to wear the tricolor sash in the same municipality or in another. All 14 municipalities that presented only one candidate elected their mayor, as the quorums required by law were exceeded. There were few majority changes, around thirty (less than 15% of the total), in some cases outgoing mayors were present among the defeated mayoral candidates. Above 15 thousand, up to the run-offs, only in Sassuolo and Molinella.
