On 29 and 30 June the “Montagna” Sports Field will be the stage for the Italian Athletics Championships. In ten days La Spezia will host one of the most important national sporting events of the year which confirm how the city is capable of organizing and hosting national and international events, thanks to the investments made in recent years by the Administration in sports facilities.
THE athletics championships that will be held in La Spezia they arrive at a golden moment for athletics, which saw Italy place first at the recent European Championships in Rome with 11 gold, 9 silver, 4 bronze for a total of 24 medals (although it must be said that the other national teams did not field their best elements, ed.).
They presented the program of games this morning at Campo “Montagna”which has been the subject of important interventions such as the reconstruction of the athletics track and the recent installation of the latest generation light towers which will allow the competitions to take place even at night, the Mayor of La Spezia Pierluigi Peracchini, the Sports Councilor of the Municipality of Spezia Marco Frascatore, the President General Fidal Stefano Mei, the Captain Luca Miani, representing the Navy.
The races will have starting on Saturday 29 June at 10.15am with the 110 hurdles and the 100 meters whose finals will be held at 9pm. At 7.50 pm the triple jump competition will take place, dedicated to the memory of Norberto Capiferri, one of the fathers of La Spezia athletics. Shot put and javelin will also be held in the afternoon and the 5000 meters in the evening.
The day of Sunday 30 June it will open at 8.30 with the 10 km walk that will take place along the city streets starting from via Domenico Chiodo. The javelin, discus and long jump competitions will follow.
A village will be set up inside the Campo Montagna where there will be stands and refreshment points. Additionally, the Navy will have its multimedia bus tour throughout the day. The complete program is attached.
