Summer brings with it the Méliès open-air cinema to Perugia

Summer brings with it – With the arrival of summer on June 21st, the city is preparing to welcome the opening of the Summer Arena of the Cinema Méliès En Plein Air. This year, the “D’Essai D’Estate” event celebrates its fourth edition and will take place until August 31st in the enchanting setting of the fifteenth-century cloister of S. Fiorenzo, located in Via della Viola n.1.

The Casa dell’Associazionismo, together with CineGatti, Arci, Legambiente, Fiorivano le Viole, Omphalos and other associations that operate in the building, have collaborated to create a cinema program that goes beyond simple entertainment. The focus is on specific themes, with the associations themselves dealing with these topics during the year as protagonists.

For example, Amnesty will present “MUG,” the directorial debut of Kasia Smutniak. Omphalos will present “BORN FOR YOU”, based on the true story of Luca Trapanese and his little girl Alba. Legambiente will present “FOOD FOR PROFIT”, and so on.

This innovative proposal does not put stars or actors in the foreground, but associations. Cinema Fuori Moda presents itself as a cinema of creative resistance, far from commercial and opportunistic logic.

The opening evening on June 21st will be dedicated to the great artist and musician Giovanna Marini, who recently passed away. The documentary “A sud della musica”, which tells the story of her artistic life, will be screened in her honor. The evening will be free and open to entry, and anyone who has been lucky enough to meet or speak with Giovanna Marini will have the opportunity to share their memories.

The program includes five mini-exhibitions: “Manga per dream”, “Bodies on loan”, “Les enfant de Méliès”, “Culture Cult”, “I like Chaplin”, and finally, the “Films of the year”. Furthermore, this year the ministerial initiative “Cinema Revolution” returns, with European and English films for just 3.50 euros. For other titles, the price is 6.50 euros (full) and 5.50 euros (reduced).
