“We are all for the defense of individual rights, the promotion of the person and their personal choices, while Pride never misses an opportunity to offend millions of citizens every year; this is not an inclusive and rights-based demonstration. The images of the “Lbgt Christ”, with crown of thorns, colored stigmata and rainbow sheet, and the sentences against the president of the government, offended Italians and the entire Christian community. Brothers of Italy, you cannot support this way of demonstrating, which you try to pass off as ‘pride and identity’.”
Thus the group leader of the Brothers of Italy in the Lombardy Regional Council, Christian Garavaglia, commenting on the motion proposed in the Regional Council by the minority regarding the request for institutional presence at Milan Pride 2024. “Demonstrations of this kind – FdI councilor Giacomo Zamperini underlined in the Chamber – have turned into an opportunity exploited by the centre-left to carry out political aggression against the Meloni government, as we have seen in the case of Rome. It is not possible to support these divisive events in which tolerance is said to be preached but the worst discrimination is practiced, that perpetrated against those who do not align themselves with the LGBT lobby. Elements which in themselves justify the fact of not granting patronage or institutional attendance at gay pride events, given that this prerogative also involves sharing their aims and intentions”.
“If – he added – we were really limited to the request for greater protection and the fight against discrimination, we would all be in the streets together”.
