THE EAGLE. With the start of the harvest of the summer truffle or scorzone, which began on June 1st and will end on September 15th, the controls of the Forestry Carabinieri have been strengthened to hinder any unauthorized harvesting.
Already in the periods immediately preceding the opening of the collection, the forestry carabinieri identified illegal collectors: in the Municipality of Barete and Montereale, the soldiers of the Montereale Forestry Unit and the Capitignano Park Carabinieri Unit issued three fines – 2,233 euros each – for harvesting truffles without authorization or dog, with unsuitable means during the ban period, for violation of the Abruzzo Region Law n°66/2012.
Even the forestry carabinieri of the Balsorano Unit (AQ), during the checks of the natural truffle fields before opening, identified a person intent on harvesting: he was fined for an amount of approximately 466 euros, for the violation of the provisions of the same Law of the Abruzzo Region n°66/2012. Furthermore, the accessory sanction of suspension of the collection suitability card was applied to him for six months.
Even today, throughout the L’Aquila area, the forestry carabinieri continue to carry out targeted services to prevent illicit harvesting, which is the cause of the progressive impoverishment of natural truffle grounds, to the detriment of the prized heritage which is the pride of the Abruzzo region at an international level.
