The discovery of one Roman stately villa of the first century AD during the excavations of worksite for the Ravenna mare – Ravenna terra methane pipeline commissioned by Snam, near the SS16 Adriatica junction near the Enav Radar Tower, was the subject of a question time at the city council yesterday, Tuesday 18 June Renato Esposito (Brothers of Italy) who asked not to cover the excavation and spoke, quoting the Italia Viva association, of a real crime.

L’culture councilor Fabio Sbaragliaduring his reply, explained that everything found is the property of the state property or the indivisible patrimony of the State and, therefore, it is only up to the State to evaluate the best form of protection, taking into account the logistical, economic and qualitative aspects, and deciding whether the conditions exist for recovery usable by the public.

“The common – Sbaraglia said – cannot and does not want to replace the competent bodies in the matter. However, we guaranteed full willingness to collaboratealso thanks to a recently renewed valorization agreement with the Ministry of Culture”.

“Due to the rich archaeological potential of the area next to the ancient port of Classe, partly already usable and partly not yet – continues Sbaraglia -, the mayor and I sent a letter to minister of culture Gennaro Sangiuliano, in which we invite him to Ravenna to view the excavation and the entire archaeological area, in order to evaluate the start of a major excavation campaign that involves the whole area”.
