Over the past week, the PS police station in Modica has intensified checks in the area with a view to preventing predatory crimes, making use of personnel specialized in the energy sector for the aspects of their competence.
Precisely in this context, following a targeted check, the police arrested a couple of young people residing in Modica Alta in flagrante delicto for theft of electricity and damage to two meters owned by Enel.
The couple, who had the availability of two apartments belonging to a single building with separate entrances, by tampering with the meter of their home, had managed to connect to a second meter, which was itself altered, from which they unduly drew electricity for use domestic, although the two had been inactive for a long time.
This tampering did not escape the attention of the Volante agents and thanks to the intervention of specialized personnel, who noted the improper supply of electricity as well as the damage to the two meters installed, the two meters, dangerous due to the risk of fire, were removed.
The two young people, a 31-year-old and his 27-year-old partner – who have previous convictions for crimes against property (in particular the young man was reported by the officers less than two months ago for a theft from a tobacco bar in Modica), were arrested in flagrante delicto and placed under house arrest at the disposal of the judicial authorities.
