The great program of the literary exhibition on Sardinian books “ViaConvento – Primavera 2024” ends with the presentation of the book by Luca Foschi “Al Ghalas. The darkest hour for the Middle East”. The last appointment is scheduled Wednesday 26 June 2024 at 6pm. On this occasion he will dialogue with the Author Carlo Augusto Melis.

Since the first date on the bill, February 28th, 15 Sardinian authors have taken turns in the Sala Affeschi of the former Capuchin Convent in via Brigata Sassari. In the sixteenth and final appointment space will be given to the Sardinian journalist Luca Foschi, who brings his first novel to Quartu, a cheerful and dynamic story in a context that is anything but bright. Al Ghalas it is a very ancient term that indicates the darkest moment of the night and belongs to Arabic literature: “It seemed useful to us to describe what is happening”the writer recently explained.

“Al Ghalas. The Middle East’s darkest hour”(Bompiani, 2024): Ernesto Fiaschi is a freelance journalist, who defines himself as a “waiter with a voice” and “refined orator”. Starting from the outskirts of Is Mirrionis, in Cagliari, he tells us about his daring experiences in Palestine, Lebanon and Afghanistan, passing through London and reaching Kobanê, in a sui generis memoir that moves and amuses. A coming-of-age story with a lyrical and avant-garde style, Al Ghalas immerses itself in the events of the war and in the feelings of the last, giving us unforgettable characters such as the partisan priest Abuna, the thoughtful drag queen Edith, a formidable roommate in Beirut, the courageous Cemìl, a of the many, wonderful boys who guide him in the most difficult places, and even “Fairuz”, a broom plant that is much more than what meets the eye: it is a symbol of a heartbreaking and unhappy love.

Luca Foschi graduated in literature in Cagliari and completed a master’s degree in journalism at the London School. An important CV for the journalist from Cagliari, who collaborates with various newspapers. Foschi knows the Middle East very well and last summer he visited Ukraine for the first time. The journalist toured the front and saw the daily death of hundreds of soldiers, whom he sometimes followed in an ambulance. A daily massacre, with unknown numbers.

The presentation of the book will be held in the Hall of Frescoes on the first floor of the former Capuchin Convent in via Brigata Sassari. Entrance is free and reservation is not necessary.
