LECCE AND THE LAND OF OTRANTO IN ANCIENT PRINTS
FROM THE 16th TO THE 19th CENTURY”
Exhibition and conference at the Palmieri Foundation in Lecce from 19 to 22 June

As they have been represented by geographers and cartographers, the City of Lecce and the
Terra d’Otranto from the 16th to the 19th century, before the advent of photography? To give a
the answer will be the event entitled “Lecce and the Land of Otranto in ancient prints
from the 16th to the 19th century”, an exhibition that can be visited from tomorrow, Wednesday 19th
June to Saturday 22 June, at the Palmieri Foundation, in Vico dei Sotterranei in Lecce (free admission, 10.30am-1pm; 5.30pm-8.30pm).
The exhibition will end with a conference scheduled for Saturday 22 June at
10.30, always at the Foundation headquarters.
The initiative is conceived and curated by Salvatore M. Aloisi, and is promoted by the Institute of
Cultura Salentina di Lecce, an association that has been working since 2016 to promote the culture and identity of Salento through events that enhance the Salento area, as part of the “Diaries of Salento History and Culture” project, and enjoys the patronage of the Province of Lecce , University of Salento, Palmieri Foundation and Lions Unicris of Poggiardo.
The antique prints exhibited to the public are part of the personal collection of
Salvatore M. Aloisi, engineer with a passion for history, who wanted to make them available to the curious and passionate, and they relate to Lecce and the Terra D’Otranto in the period from the sixteenth to the nineteenth century; the final conference will illustrate the historical and geographical evolution of the Salento area over time, also thanks to the intervention of authoritative guests who are experts on the topic.
The program will open with greetings from Carla Palmieri, president
Palmieri Foundation, Valentino Tarsilla, president of the Salento Culture Institute e
Sandro Tramacere, president of the Poggiardo Unicris Lions Club.
We then get to the heart of the meeting with the report by Salvatore M. Aloisi, consultant
managerial/savings manager, passionate and scholar of ancient prints, who has
made available the rare pieces collected for over 30 years, who will discuss the topic
with Fabio Pollice, rector of the University of Salento, Francesco Introna, ordinary
of Forensic Medicine at the University of Bari and author of the book “Bari nelle Antiche
Stampe” and Mario Cazzato, historian of the city of Lecce and Salento. To moderate i
the work will be the journalist Roberta Lomonaco.
