Conterno, Cia Cuneo: “The regional government must now make quick and clear decisions”

Piedmont, with the recent regional votes which led to the reconfirmation of President Alberto Cirio, is preparing to experience a phase of “governance” in which agriculture will have a fundamental role. What does the rural world ask of those who will lead the Region in the coming years? We talked about it with the provincial president of Cia Cuneo, Claudio Conterno. He replies: “After the operational stop due to the electoral period, now we need to run. We ask President Cirio to speed up the formation of the Council as much as possible and then, all together, we must immediately roll up our sleeves because Piedmont is going through a difficult economic moment and the numbers tell us that the economy is at a standstill. In all sectors: and agriculture is also paying for its own difficulties.”

What do you expect? “Cirio must decide whether he wants to be a great administrator – he has already demonstrated his abilities and the second mandate allows him to do so from a political point of view – or “float”. We need to discuss things as often as needed, so there is a need for dialogue, but then we need quick and clear choices and, on certain aspects, perhaps even drastic ones. Today’s world has its priorities in the speed of execution of choices and in the strategic vision of the future. If you don’t do it, you’ll be cut off in a short time.”

The most concrete request? “A large part of company resources must be used in implementing administrative procedures. Therefore, we need a less bureaucratic public apparatus that looks at least to tomorrow, if not beyond. In short, an apparatus that thinks of its organizational structure like any local company which, to obtain results, must implement rapid and efficient choice paths. Otherwise, we will not solve the problems and we will not be able to save ourselves.”

What contribution can farmers make? “The tractor protest, legitimate and carried out intelligently because it did not cause damage, pursued objectives to bring home today. From here on out, we absolutely need to focus on future goals. As CIA we will try to help the regional government with the proposals necessary to relaunch our sector. Looking to the future of agriculture. And continuing to work with ever greater attention to the quality of the productions.”
