ROVIGO – It closed on June 17th 64th year of the Lions Club Rovigo Hostin the name of consolidated tradition and far-sighted contact with citizens and institutions.
Ruggero Zambonpresident for the second consecutive year, was able to count on a heterogeneous, competent and available team to complete 18 services, also in synergy with other local bodies and clubs.
The common thread underlying the planning of the activities was the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Developmentin particular for the objectives relating to Health and Wellbeing, Environment, Quality Education, Gender Equality, Sustainable Cities and Communities.
Innovative ways to serve people and protect the planet were addressed and proposed, for example with the massive donation of discarded glasses and cell phones. The many events that also involved citizens concerned the Rovigo sport par excellence, rugby; the most famous singer of Polesine, Cibotto; the history and art buried under the former prison, but also human rights, the memory of the Shoah, the excellent people of Rovigo in the world. Great attention to young and very young people, for their training, for the prevention of diseases and for their ability to deal with natural disasters. A great gesture of support for the world of women was made with the offer of valid aids for women victims of violence, and then the donation of an ambulance to the Red Cross.
These and many others were concrete gestures, which involved the investment of over 127,000 euros. In total, 30,000 people were involved, together with 37 associations. Many of the services do not only concern this year as they have a multi-year duration.
“It is really important – the words of the outgoing president Ruggero Zambon – that many people have become closer to the objectives and intentions of the Lions, so much so that today three new members join the club. These are three esteemed local professionals: their energies will also be made available to the city in service activities which are the basis of the primary tasks that the Lions are responsible for. Their skills add to the many present and represent a wealth that can be used in new initiatives. I am the entrepreneur Monica Lanfredini, the accountant Giorgio Casarotti, the engineer and architect Alessio Pipinato.”
