Shock rape in Prati: advances rejected in the street, then followed to the condominium wash house

When he found himself in front of him in the offices of the Prati police station he had no doubts. “It’s him,” said the policemen who had stopped her rapist shortly before. Kovicha Samkurashvili, a 32-year-old Georgian bricklayer, was arrested for the rape of a 37-year-old Belarusian domestic helper who was attacked on the sixth floor of a building in via Francesco Caracciolo 10, in Prati, not far from the Vatican Museums. The married man was tracked down by the police in Monte Mario four days after the abuse, on June 13th, and taken to prison in Regina Coeli. The investigators of the Prati police station had already identified him in the building where he had committed the violence thanks to the analysis of the footage from the security cameras: on the morning of 9 June last, on a Sunday, with the area between Via Angelo Emo and Piazzale degli Eroi practically deserted , despite the election day, Samkurashvili was seen entering the building where the woman had arrived shortly before and then leaving half an hour later.

Confidence in the mother

In addition to the videos and the victim’s testimony, the tattoos on his arms also frame him: a black line and some geometric figures of the same color. It was the maid herself who had indicated them, who lives with her grandmother in the same building and who immediately confided in her mother after the abuse. The bricklayer had ordered her not to tell anything about what she had done to him. “I know where you live,” he had told her. But she still found the courage to go to the police and have him arrested.

The hypothesis: another serial

It remains to be seen whether the Georgian man, who at the moment does not appear to be connected to the gangs of house thieves who have been in action several times in Prati, is responsible for similar violence. Another serial killer, in short, like Simone Borgese, also a labourer, arrested last week for the rape of a 22-year-old student in Magliana. The dynamics of the violence suffered by the domestic helper are being examined by those who investigate and the ways in which the man approached his victim. “I can’t forget his face,” explained the 37-year-old. In practice that morning the bricklayer had noticed her while she was walking near the house.

Violence in the washroom

He followed her for a while, making sexual advances that the woman refused, continuing to head towards the building in via Caracciolo. She entered through the door and went to the sixth floor to collect the clothes hanging in the washroom. She could not imagine that this man, whom she had never seen before that day, had also managed to enter the building. He attacked her from behind, covering her mouth with his hand to prevent her from screaming. And he raped her. No one in the building heard any screams or suspicious noises, no one was able to help the victim, nor notice the presence of an intruder on the condominium stairs. The Georgian thus managed to leave undisturbed, convinced that those threats would have been enough to avoid being reported. But he hadn’t taken into account the determination of the woman who instead told everything to the police at the Prati police station. And she had him arrested.
