No Tyrrhenian Link, public meeting on Friday 21 June in Quartu – Report Sardegna 24

“The works, carried out by the Terna Spa company, are aimed at exporting the electricity produced by speculators with wind turbines and photovoltaic panels, through a sorting station, a storage station and a high voltage submarine cable directed first to Sicily and from there to Campania. This new and cumbersome easement has no use for the energy supply in Sardinia, but represents only the umpteenth cumbersome easement imposed without taking into consideration the Sardinians and the Sardinians.

The Quartese community is worried about what will happen in the area where the submarine cable coming from Sicily is expected to land, near Terra Mala. According to the Coastal Use Plan, currently being approved, it is an area classified as “Environmental Naturalistic Area 3” and is located a short distance from Mari Pintau, the famous beach included among the Natura 2000 network sites as a SCI area which it recently received the blue flag recognition. The planned landing point for the cable is located in the village of Marina delle Nereidi where 120 families live, including a care community and various accommodation facilities and services related to tourism. Hundreds of people will see their lands burdened by easements, although in many cases they are still in the dark about everything. The No Tyrrhenian Link committees of Quartu and Selargius have presented a complaint to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, denouncing the lack of public consultation required by Italian law (contract code) and by European Law (EU Regulation 347/2013), which in fact has completely ousted the Quartese community from a decision that concerns the future of its territory.

The Quartu Sant’Elena Council with a resolution dated 04/19/2023 had foreseen that the City Council would have to approve the memorandum of understanding and the agreement with Terna Spa, but this discussion has still never been addressed by the Council. The imposition of the easements and the expropriations (which will be arranged directly by Terna) will take place in the silence of the Quartese administrators, who were also absent from the meeting of the Metropolitan City held last June 3 on this issue.

On Monday 10 June we filed a request addressed to the Quartu City Council and the Mayor, Graziano Milia, asking for an open City Council to be called, in order to involve the Quartu community to take stock of the Tyrrhenian Link project. While waiting to receive a response from our administrators, we call all citizens to a public meeting on Friday 21 June at 6 pm, in Piazza 25 Aprile (Via Eligio Porcu) in Quartu, to be able to discuss together and inform ourselves about this project which will influence the future of our community”, write the promoters of the event.
