AI Center of Turin, the Court of Auditors gives the green light. We start in July

The Court of Auditors has finally given the definitive green light to the National Center for Artificial Intelligence in Turin, which now with the registration of the decree will be able to start its business, after the ribbon cutting which took place last May 3rd. Ai4Industrycapable of obtaining funding of 20 million a year from the government, will see between 200 and 300 people employed at full capacity.

The headquarters is currently within a thousand square meters in the “butterfly”, the building next to the skyscraper which is part of the Region’s complex. But it is only a temporary solution to leave immediately, given that the search to locate a place will soon start (the former Ogr probably )that becomes definitive. He will certainly be the president of Ai4Industry Fabio Pammolliborn in 1965, full professor of Economics and Management at the Polytechnic of Milan and economic advisor to Giorgetti at Mef.

«Finally our action can get to the heart of things – stated President Pammolli – and we can convene the first meeting of the Council, which will certainly be held in the month of July. At the moment we are focusing on the company structure, since we have to start from scratch. In fact, again in July – he added – we will open the call to decide the director: we will not only ask the candidates to give us their CV, but a real industrial plan which will be examined by the next Committee”.

Phrases that Pammolli pronounced yesterday in Turin at the conference «Supercomputing as an enabling platform for artificial intelligence», organized by the Observatory on the trends and applications of Supercomputing and sponsored by the University of Turin, EuroCC Italy, EuroHPC Joint Undertaking, Fondazione Piemonte Innova, Polytechnic and Chamber of Commerce.

In fact, supercomputing can play a crucial role in providing advanced computational resources, opening the doors to new frontiers in artificial intelligence, data analysis and other computationally intensive fields. «We don’t yet know precisely what our specializations will be – underlined Pammolli – everything will depend on the quality of the projects. Certainly aerospace and healthcare are two branches of great interest. Ai4Industry will represent Italy and will have to dialogue with the giants, we will be a sort of middle ground between scale ups and competence centers. Our researchers will find all the best conditions to develop their activities.”

In the meantime Futures Platform has already predicted that demand for Supercomputing services will increase 10-fold by 2030. This growth will create opportunities for companies that know how to use these tools. Creating connections between new technologies and the industrial fabric of the Turin area could therefore determine new possible industrial prospects, creating growth and qualified employment. A possible driving force for generating value is represented by the «Software and Integration» laboratory of theUniversity of Turin, created with Pnrr funds. A place ready to train a new generation of researchers in supercomputing systems and data analysis. Nicolò Fagone La Zita
