CATANIA – There judgment of the process derived fromoperation Kynara of the Flying Squad of Catania has condemned overall 26 defendants sentenced to 208 years in prison. The defendants were investigated for mafia association, criminal association aimed at drug trafficking and dealing, as well as for the illegal possession of firearms.
According to investigations by the Police Headquarters Flying Squad, every two weeks couriers transported between 15 and 20 kilograms of cocaine from Calabria to Sicily, then distributed to Catania and other provinces of the island. The operation was part of one collaboration between Calabrian gangs and Michele Vinciguerra45 years, head of a branch of the Cappello-Bonaccorsi mafia clan. After being released in April 2021, Vinciguerra would have dedicated himself to cocaine traffickingbut later decided to collaborate with justice.
Michele Vinciguerra was sentenced to 16 years and 4 months in prison, while other significant sentences include 15 years and 4 months each for Giacomo Ravasco And Saverio Zoccoli. The judge has instead Luigi Cipolla and Delio Santillo were acquittednot considering them guilty of the crimes charged against them.
