Expired license plate, police find drugs in car

Tuesday 18 June 2024 – 4.59pm

Over the past weekend, the State Police of Arezzo, on the Autostrada del Sole, arrested 2 young men of Maghreb origin, aged 25 and 37.

Around 5pm on Saturday afternoon a patrol from the Battifolle Polstrada stopped for a check a Mercedes Benz class A with two people on board which was traveling along the southern carriageway of the A1.

Since the car was equipped with a German customs plate, commonly called “zoll”, which expired on March 29th and therefore not valid for circulation on national soil, the officers had decided to stop it, accompanying the occupants to the office for an inspection .

The two, realizing that the car would be seized, began to get agitated, so much so that they induced the officers to carry out a search of the car because it was clear that they were hiding something.

In the dashboard, behind the car radio and under the compartment that houses the airbag, a cellophane wrapper was found, found to contain white powder which, analyzed at the Scientific Police Department of the Arezzo Police Headquarters, was found to be cocaine for a gross weight of 91.60 grams.

The two, both with no criminal record and in possession of a regular residence permit, were found to reside in the Arezzo area and therefore the police requested help from their colleagues from the Flying Squad of the Police Headquarters to carry out an immediate house search which, however, did not lead to to discover more.

The two young North Africans were then arrested and made available to the AG through restriction at the prison in Prato.
