Occhiuto’s betrayal and the dark future of Calabria

“For months, President Occhiuto played the part of the champion of Calabria, promising that without the adequate resources, differentiated autonomy would never pass”

Press release

“No money, no party”, he shouted in Taormina. “We don’t let ourselves be fooled,” he reiterated in Naples. But, at the same time, in institutional settings, Occhiuto expressed his vote in favor of differentiated autonomy, betraying his own promises and the mandate of the Calabrians.

A betrayal that emptied the Regional Council of value, depriving it of its authority and mortifying it. Now the farce is over: today’s vote in the Chamber.”

This is what the regional councilor of the Democratic Party and vice president of the Health Commission, Amalia Bruni, says.

“Today’s vote in the Chamber risks establishing the irreversible division of our country, with the South condemned to a future of marginality and impoverishment. With differentiated autonomy, Calabria will lose all hope of recovery. Social rights, healthcare, education, social services, transport and the environment will all be even weaker than today. The Calabrians will pay the heaviest price for this wicked choice, and those who can will flee from our land in search of a better future – states Bruni again -. We will fight with all our strength against this unfair project that wants to break up Italy and condemn Calabria to decline. We will activate all the democratic tools at our disposal to prevent this massacre from taking place: we will not resign ourselves and we will activate all the democratic tools to prevent this wicked project”, concludes councilor Amalia Bruni.
