Charity benefit every Tuesday in Cagliari with the arrival of Costa Smeralda

With the resumption of landings in Cagliari, the Costa Crociere program to support the most vulnerable has also restarted: every Tuesday the food prepared but not used on board the “Costa Smeralda” ship will be donated to the Onlus Food Bank. The meals are then distributed to the Wayfarer-Conference canteen of San Lorenzo and to the Congregation of the Missionary Sisters of Charity of Calcutta.
From today until November 26, the evening before the ship’s arrival, at the end of the dinner, all the dishes prepared in the catering areas that have not been served to guests will be collected, the so-called “ready to eat”. The meals will then be placed in special aluminum containers which will be sealed and labeled to ensure traceability, and subsequently stored in the on-board refrigerators.
The following day, after the ship has docked at the port of Cagliari, the containers will be disembarked and delivered to the volunteers. Today alone, around 100 complete meals were landed and distributed. The initiative is the result of collaboration between Costa Crociere, the Port System Authority of the Sea of Sardinia, the Customs Office of Cagliari, the General Directorate of Animal Health and Veterinary Medicines of Cagliari, Cagliari Cruise Port, and the Fondazione Banco Alimentare Onlus.
“Cagliari is a very important port for us – states Giuseppe Carino, Costa Crociere – it was the first port in Italy where we reactivated our food surplus donation program following the pause of the pandemic, paving the way for the subsequent restart also in other destinations”. “Once again – declares Massimo Deiana, president of the AdSP of the Sea of Sardinia – the Sardinian port system is at the forefront, with particular sensitivity and attention, to support all those initiatives that from the sea can contribute to the well-being of their community” .
