Como, long queues at Navigation. Tourists: “Hours of waiting under the sun, there should be more boats”

There are those who take shelter with an umbrella, those who use what they have to cover their heads from the sun. The long queues at Navigazione Lago di Como, especially those waiting for ferries in the central and hottest hours of the day, become unbearable. This is normal, given that we are talking about a weekday in mid-June. The worst situation is at the weekend, when foreign tourists are also joined by local visitors, those on trips out of town. And just think about what will happen in the months of July and August.

The difficulty in purchasing tickets online expressed by several people is a symptom of a service that is not up to par in a tourist city like Como. Most people purchase tickets directly at the ticket office, contributing to long queues. It is not even possible to purchase the ticket on board, except on a single route, the one between Como and Urio. In fact, last December an experiment was launched, which has remained so, because the contactless payment system, with which it is possible to pay the travel ticket directly on board using your bank card, has not yet been extended to other boats. The most popular destinations for tourists are Bellagio and Varenna. And for these routes the only possibility still remains the ticket office and, when possible, the online ticket. A problem, that of long queues, which recurs every year and for which no solution has yet been found. The hypothesis of regionalizing the service, mooted several times, has never been materialised. One thing is certain, tourist flows on the Lario are constantly increasing and Como cannot stand by and watch.
