MONZA, 18 JUNE 2024 – Ibrahim Lawani and MINT Vero Volley Monza together again. After the first short experience at the beginning of the 2023/2024 season, which ended prematurely due to an injury, theFrench opposite born in 2001 he will represent the MINT Vero Volley Monza 24/25 department together with the Canadian Arthur Szwarc. 198 centimeters of pure power and a very warm arm are the calling card of “Ibra”, who before arriving in Monza played half a season in the SuperLega Credem Banca among the ranks of Taranto, which he led with his flashes to salvation in the 22/23 season. Among the points of reference for France’s youth teams, Lawani was ready to make the leap to the senior national team for the 2023 VNL, but a foot injury prevented him from being there.
Born in Vitry-sur-Seine (a French municipality of 90,075 inhabitants located in the department of the Marne Valley in the Île-de-France region), the new purchase of Vero Volley grew up in France Avenir (the French Italian Club which plays in Ligue B), showing off as the best scorer in the championship and averaging 18.2 points per game. His first appearances in the top category came in 2020, when he wore the Paris Volley shirt, the team with which he played Ligue 1 on a regular basis since the 20/21 season, before moving to Gioiella Prisma Taranto in January 2023.
Lawani started playing as a spiker, but 5 years ago he decided to dedicate himself to the opposite role. With the Paris club he lifted a French Cup in the 2019-2020 season and also has a Silver in his list with the Transalpine Under 22 national team at the 2022 European Championships, where he won the prize for best opposite and top scorer of the event with 115 points, including 13 aces.
“I am very happy to return to wearing the Monza shirt, which I had to leave after a few months due to an injury last year – Lawani commented – I have been working towards my return for six months and my shoulder is gradually getting stronger, thanks to the support of my physiotherapist Erwan Tanguy and the Cape Breton rehabilitation centre. I recently did my first training sessions in Monza to test my shoulder, and I’m progressing very well together with the staff. I can’t wait to get back for the championship and get back to performing at the highest level.”
