Here comes the heat summer and the regions run for cover to protect workers in the fields. Both the Region Puglia that the Region Basilicatain fact, they issued the ban on working in the fields during the hottest hours, from 12.30 to 16.00, on days when the health risk is high. The Presidents of the Puglia Region, Michele Emiliano, and of the Basilicata Region, Vito Bardi, signed the respective ordinances today which have immediate effect on the entire regional territory until August 31, 2024.

“With this provision, which takes effect immediately – says President Emiliano -, we want to protect the health of workers in the agricultural sector who carry out outdoor activities. For this reason, from today until the end of August, activities will be prohibited in the agricultural countryside where high temperatures will be recorded. This is an ordinance shared with the Regional Health Department for the protection of workers”. Failure to comply with obligations will result in sanctions.

‘‘Adopted in a timely manner – declared Bardi – the ordinance aims to protect and safeguard the health of thousands of workers engaged in Basilicata, during the summer season, in an intense activity of harvesting and handling fruit, vegetables and typical seasonal products, without the possibility for workers to shelter from the sun and from the heat at times of the day characterized by a notable rise in temperature which sees Basilicata overwhelmed by an exceptional heat wave with record peaks of over +40°C”.
