Two illegal workshops with illegal workers discovered in the Lucca plain: fines and suspension of activities

Two illegal mechanical workshops discovered in the Lucca plain, without registration in the Chamber of Commerce registers. The illegal exercise, between Capannori and Altopascio, was ascertained by the Carabinieri of the Lucca Labor Inspectorate Unit, the Forestry Carabinieri of Lucca and Capannori and the military of Altopascio and Lammari.

From the investigations, the managers were not able to provide any authorization for the business activity carried out, nor the register of loading and unloading of the waste produced, nor any waste management contracts with external companies. The different types of special waste found, scattered in bulk and not legally disposed of, were seized according to environmental legislation. Various equipment such as bridges, workbenches, shelves, workshop tools and more were also seized. The employees found on site were also found to be without any insurance coverage and therefore “in the black”, without the protections provided for health and safety in the workplace such as the preparation of the Risk Assessment Document, training and medical examination.

For this reason the Carabinieri also adopted measures to suspend the two activities. At the end of the investigations, administrative sanctions totaling around 15 thousand euros and fines of around 10 thousand euros were imposed on the garage managers.
