The ‘Ship’ extraordinarily narrated by Giovanni Robustelli’s image that accompanies this year’s edition, has set sail. And there could not be a more beautiful, fascinating, delightful and evocative port than Casa Mutika to begin the journey into the sea of culture and knowledge, of narration and storytelling. Yesterday the launch of Scenari 2024, the third edition of the exhibition signed by Mondadori Bookstore Modica – with the artistic direction of its mentor Piera Ficili – and by Fondazione Teatro Garibaldi. Doing the honors will be the class and elegance of Stefano Giaquinta, CEO of Mutika EMC presenting sponsor of the event which will feature 19 writers in 16 evenings in the most beautiful ‘scenarios’ of Modica. Stefano Giaquinta opened the press conference, explaining why his organization chose to support an all-Modica project, reiterating Mutika’s strong and constant commitment to the City and the extraordinary potential that Modica shows and that Mutika supports and pushes, enhancing its peculiarities . Words that strike a chord and that literally resonated while the sunset behind the interventions gave an image of Modica and its symbol San Giorgio, with a charm impossible to describe. The support of the institutions is fundamental, starting from the Sicily Region with the president of the First Commission of the ARS, the Honorable Ignazio Abbate, continuing with the Free Municipal Consortium with its extraordinary commissioner, Patrizia Valenti and up to the mayor and the municipal administration of Modica. Absent for institutional reasons is the Honorable Abbate who once again obtained the support of the Region for an initiative which makes Modica the cradle of national literature for a month and which he has supported in every step towards its affirmation and consecration, it was the mayor of Modica, who reiterated the strength of the cultural proposal of his city and of this event which in three years has exceeded all the wildest expectations, offering in the presence of the elite of literature and of Italian writers, the postcard of a city that knows and wants to read. “Scenari – said the mayor – represents us and represents Modica and presenting its third edition on this terrace which overlooks an incredible image in the heart of the beauty of Modica, attests even more to its importance, its elegance and how much of a driving force it is for our City.”
Enzo Scarso, journalist and moderator of two of the sixteen meetings starting with the one on 28 June, on the steps of St. Peter’s at 9pm, with Paolo Mieli, wanted to underline that today “Scenari represents a lot for Modica”, thanking institutions and sponsors, Piera Ficili for creating it, the Garibaldi Foundation for marrying its progeny and now supporting its growth, Mutika EMC who believed in this project (“Mutika is an excellence of Modica – he said – A global brand that could be based anywhere in the globe terraqueo and which instead chose Modica as its headquarters”) and anyone who supports this initiative starting from the sponsor partner of Scenari 2024, Coop Sicilia which has shown that it truly believes in the beauty of storytelling.
Tonino Cannata, superintendent of the Garibaldi Theater Foundation, underlined that the cultural proposal of fiction has sealed, in this edition, what is now a complete partnership between Mondadori Bookstore and the Foundation. “A partnership born by chance and through a spontaneous alchemy with Piera Ficili and which continues to solidify to create this unique path that fuels Scenari 2024. Together with the Andy Warhol exhibition which we inaugurated on Saturday, with Scenari Modica becomes an increasingly pole of attraction and this thanks to the full public-private synergy (Region with the Honorable Abbate and Administration), the axis around which our City’s ability to grow revolves”
It was Piera Ficili, creator, artistic director, owner of Mondadori Bookstore and true and only soul of Scenari, who closed the speeches after the greeting from the director of Coop Sicilia, Spadaro, and Giovanni Robustelli who explained the meaning of that ship’ which is the manifesto of Scenari 2024 and which travels with the tailwind of culture pushing its sails. Piera Ficili thanked the institutions – the Sicily Region with the Honorable Ignazio Abbate, the Municipality of Modica, the Free Municipal Consortium of Ragusa – which support the initiative, the Teatro Garibaldi Foundation, spending nice words on its superintendent, the sponsors “without whom – he said – Scenarios would not exist”, Mutika EMC which was an essential element in putting the signature at the bottom of this event, the journalists, those who were present last night at the vernissage and anyone who is of support, help and effective implementation of this event which makes Modica a point of reference in the Italian book panorama and an engine of culture to focus on.
And now we begin with an extraordinary opening: on Monday 24 June at 7.30 pm Alessandro Baricco will be in dialogue on his latest novel Abel (Feltrinelli) with Mattia Insolia on the splendid staircase of San Giorgio. A Rizzoli weekend will then follow: on Friday 28 June at 9pm Paolo Mieli will analyze The Authoritarian Century on the steps of St. Peter’s together with the journalist Enzo Scarso, on Saturday 29 June Valentina Romani will be with her debut book Guarda che è vero at 7pm: 00 in the municipal atrium in the meeting moderated by the journalist Chiara Scucces and on Sunday 30 June again at 9.00 pm with Giovanni Grasso in the courtyard of the former Carmine convent to talk about an impossible relationship with the novel Nobody Sees Love, meeting moderated by journalist Saro Distefano.
