the Committee’s approval on the final costs on Monday

TARANTO – Mediterranean Games, brief technical postponement for the approval of the second masterplan. Which, as is now known, is nothing other than the list of sports facilities to be used with the related costs expected for any renovations. In fact, we will talk about it again in the next few days when the organizing committee will then necessarily have to turn on the green light for the work carried out by the government commissioner, Massimo Ferrarese, and his staff. For the record, it is worth remembering that this second wave of public works distributed among the municipalities of the province of Taranto, but also in the municipalities of Brindisi, Francavilla Fontana, Fasano, Conversano and Lecce has a total financing of 105 million euros . Which, in reality, initially amounted to 125 but around 20 were spread (and added) to the first master plan already approved by the Organizing Committee. The (brief) postponement, from what we understand, would have been necessary to redefine the costs of the various interventions in more detail. And this, evidently, following the increase in spending forecasts for the “Iacovone” stadium and the two Olympic swimming pools. The first, in fact, will go from approximately 50 to 62 million euros, the second (the swimming stadium) from 37 to 41 million. And this, naturally, requires that there be an overall review of all the works, in fact, already included. Objective: to make ends meet.

Meanwhile, for the record, several other sports facilities have been included in the second list drawn up by Commissioner Ferrarese, compared to the first master plan. Here, below, are the main ones: the former Magna Grecia center (eight tennis courts will be built, one of which will have a grandstand for 1,500 spectators) and the Francavilla Fontana structures (present in the first master plan and then cancelled); the sports hall and the Sava stadium; the roofing of the Iacovone stadiums and the one in via del Mare di Lecce, the integration of the PalaRicciardi (here too, there will be an increase in initial costs, thus approaching 20 million euros); the skate park, ice rink and four additional tennis courts for training in the Salinella district in the immediate vicinity of the stadium, eight school gyms (7 in Taranto and 1 in Statte) to be used for the training of the athletes participating in the Games and, finally, the gym and the horse riding facility in San Giorgio Ionico.
