“In 2024 it has become difficult to stay in one’s own shoes, to feel free to express oneself or simply to be”, the battle of Palermo Pride 2024. The phrase, stated this morning, 18 June, in the UN room of the Teatro Massimo in Palermo, contains the reason for the mobilization of thousands of activists and citizens fighting for the much desired freedom. “Anger is not enough for us” is the claim that accompanies the LGBTQ+ community, an expression that incites the fight for a society based on equality.

“An identity celebration that the city welcomes and must know how to listen to – declared the mayor, Roberto Lagalla – and a municipal administration and a mayor must be guardians of everything and everyone -.

Palermo Pride 2024

Palermo pride 2024 is an event that goes beyond the traditional LGBT+ procession and extends in a village at the Zisa cultural sites, offering a review of events spread throughout the city. These events include talks, stand-up comedy shows, theatrical performances, drag shows, concerts, meetings and debates on topics related to activism.

At the center of the pride was the question of male violence. “What we’re trying to do is gather a series of issues to fight for,” he declared Daniela Tomasinopresident of Palermo Pride coordination – since the mechanisms of oppression are always the same – he continues – the meaning of pride is precisely this, fighting for everyone’s rights”.

The slogan, “Anger is not enough for us” underlines the importance of expressing one’s opinions, discussing and fighting together. The event also focuses on other issues, such as public spaces and accessibility, homolesbobitransphobia, narratives of violence, disability, migration, work, income and public health.
