Castellammare – Asbestos spilled in the avenue of the ecological island, the unions report | StabiaChannel.it

It is now a real health emergency in via Fondo d’Orto, in the access road to the ecological island. A road that has become an open-air landfill where unscrupulous second-hand dealers systematically dump waste of all kinds, including dangerous ones.

A situation that the unions have been denouncing for several months and for which there seems to be no solution. «It’s incredible what happens to the ecological island – thunder the unions Uil, Fiadel and CGIL – Mountains of waste of all kinds abandoned all along the road. It is difficult for us to even collect and dispose of it. Among other things, among this waste, there is also asbestos. The safety and health of workers is therefore at risk. Castellammare is the only municipality that is unable to resolve this situation of degradation, where unscrupulous people continue to do what they want without being punished. After the many complaints we have made in recent months we are now ready to present a complaint to the Prosecutor’s Office, because what we are facing is now a real health emergency.”

The ecological island has been closed for over a year for redevelopment and modernization works. The gates are therefore closed. A situation which evidently leads some uncivilized people to consider themselves authorized to leave any type of waste along the driveway. The unions, once again, are asking for greater attention from the police to prevent this massacre from continuing, blocking and sanctioning those who, for all intents and purposes, commit a crime against the environment.

But that is not all. The complaint also extends to the rest of the Castellammare di Stabia area where citizens continue to do less and less separate waste collection but, above all, to dispose of undifferentiated waste every day, from morning to evening. And so it is that in the street, in front of the doors and gates of buildings, there are always abandoned rubbish bags. A city that therefore appears dirty despite the work of the ecological operators who are forced to leave the garbage bags there because they contain waste that does not comply with that foreseen for collection on that particular day. As has often been reported by many respectable citizens and local associations, we need greater controls and above all sanctions for those who do not comply with the rules of separate waste collection. «Without controls and sanctions – say the unions – it is an unequal fight against uncivilized people. This is why we insist on asking for support from the relevant bodies to implement the necessary controls.”

For years we have been talking about environmental guards, people – perhaps even volunteers – who, duly trained, patrol the city identifying critical issues and reporting those who do not respect the waste disposal rules. There are, in particular, some areas of Castellammare where these situations have now become chronic. These are via Bonito near the Cinema Montil, in via Venezia in front of the church, in via Plinio, in via D’Annunzio in front of the Bonito-Cosenza school. In short, this is a difficult situation that should be contained to prevent the phenomenon from spreading.
