“Four hours to go to Gubbio”

In the unfortunate event that a tourist or a simple user wants to reach Gubbio using public transport from Città di Castello, with the new summer timetable it could take something like four hours: “He would in fact have to go by bus instead of the train first to Perugia, then to Fratticciola and Gubbio”. The case is emblematic and brought to the fore by the Il Mosaico association which wrote an open letter to the Region, on the one hand recognizing some important steps forward made in the transport sector (ex FCU works, airport), on the other the wrong choice of endorse the new summer timetable “where in the Upper Tiber many extra-urban routes have been cut”.

The association therefore calls for the establishment of a control room in the Region “which evaluates the services provided by individual carriers, optimizing everything with a policy of integration of services, based on the needs of the territories”, we read in the letter. The new timetable would have been compiled “in the total silence of the institutions in the Upper Tiber, thanks to the electoral round”. Trips have been cut both on extra-urban and railway routes and which “penalize our community and the tourists who come here in the summer”. The letter signed by Carlo Reali criticizes the lack of participation: “These cuts were made without prior discussion with the local administrations, eliminating travel from Città di Castello towards Gubbio, towards Citerna, Montone or Lake Trasimeno from the beginning of June. Let’s talk about an entire area of tourist importance in the summer period”. According to the Il Mosaico association, “the valley thus suffers unequal treatment compared to territories such as Gualdese, Assisano or Spoletino. Italian and foreign tourists who reach the Altotiber ask to move to places dear to Saint Francis by public transport which unfortunately does not There are”. The summer timetables were released in conjunction with the closure of the station in recent days for works: “A timetable could have been made that was more respectful of the needs of the area: from 9am to 12pm, essential for tourists for example, there are no services towards Perugia from Città di Castello. Routes are established that do not have connections with Trenitalia services and even with the FCU itself towards the southern route. Nowadays we prefer to talk about high speed and not about commuter and tourist transport”: another consideration that can be read in the letter of the Mosaic.
