Matteo Mennini presents the book “LGBT+ Believers” in Bisceglie. Rights, faith and Christian Churches in contemporary Italy”. Appointment Tuesday 18 June at 7.30 pm at the Vecchie Segherie Mastrototaro which host the initiative organized in collaboration with Epass.
Matteo Mennini, professor of Christianity and globalization in the Department of Humanistic Studies of Roma Tre University, will dialogue with Marco Tridenterepresentative of the Puglia region group of LGBTQIA+ Christian believers ‘Zaccheo’,
The book reconstructs the history of the movement of LGBT+ believers in Italy from the seventies to the year 2000, the year of the great Jubilee and World Pride celebrated in Rome. Based on unpublished archive sources, on interviews with the various protagonists and on internal documentation of the groups, the book highlights the main debates and the contribution that the Italian experiences of aggregation for LGBT+ believers have made in the Protestant and Catholic Churches. The analysis of the internal dynamics of those groups is profoundly connected to the evolution of the movements for the claim of the rights of LGTB+ people and to the transformations that have affected Italian Christianity in the last half century.
